About Novel Studio
Novel Studio is a workspace for writers of serial fiction. It brings planning your world, outlining episodes, drafting scenes, and carrying the story into the next episode into one place. It is currently a free beta.
Why it exists
Serials are a long game. Past episode 50 or 100, a surprising amount of energy goes into remembering where you planted a clue, whether your lead is still injured, and how far along the whole arc this episode sits. Most AI writing tools are good at producing a single block of text, but they leave the remembering and the pacing toward the finale to you.
Novel Studio focuses on exactly that: remembering and continuing. It is not a machine that writes the book for you; it is a tool that keeps hold of the canon and plans you set, so they don’t slip as the episodes pile up.
Who it’s for
It is built for writers serializing a long story on a web fiction platform or getting ready to, writers working on a long manuscript for a contest, and anyone planning their first story that runs past a hundred chapters. Both the interface and the AI drafting work in English as well as Korean, so English-language serial writers can use the same workflow.
If you just want to dash off a short story, or polish sentences without any setup, Novel Studio will probably feel like more than you need. Its strengths are designed to show up as the chapters pile up.
How it works
- Setup → plot → scenes: define the world, rules, and characters; set a target episode count and how much goes to the opening, middle, and ending; then write episode by episode, scene by scene.
- Each episode gets wrapped up: when an episode’s scenes are done, its summary, open threads, and ending hook are recorded so the next episode picks them up.
- Writing that knows where it is: every scene request includes “episode N of M, X episodes to the finale”, so the AI doesn’t rush the ending early or open new mysteries in the final act.
- Foreshadowing, relationships, timeline: it tracks when planted clues should pay off, how relationships change, and how in-story time flows, and warns you when things drift.
- The AI drafts, you decide: text generation uses Google Gemini. You can edit anything, and every regeneration or save keeps the previous text as a version.
How a chapter gets made
Say you are writing chapter 12 of a contemporary fantasy planned for 50 chapters. First you set out what happens in chapter 12 and the order of its scenes in the plot planner. When you hand a scene to the AI, Novel Studio sends along your world and character setup, the summaries and closing hooks of chapters 1 through 11, any foreshadowing you haven’t paid off yet, and where you are: “chapter 12 of 50, end of the opening section.”
The AI draft is only a starting point. You rewrite it, regenerate it if it misses, and the previous text is kept as a version. Once every scene in chapter 12 is done, you record the chapter’s summary, any new threads, and the hook that carries into the next chapter, and chapter 13 starts from that record. Repeating this loop chapter after chapter is what keeps the story from contradicting itself.
How your manuscripts are handled
- Without an account, your stories stay in your browser.
- With an account, they are saved to the cloud so you can continue on any device. No one else can see them.
- AI requests pass through our server to Google; we relay them and never store them. During the free beta, AI runs on Google’s free quota, so under Google’s terms requests may be used to improve Google’s products — this is spelled out in the Privacy Policy.
- You own what you write. We never sell, publish, or reuse your manuscripts.
What it won’t do
- It does not produce explicit sexual content. Mature themes can be allowed site-wide by the operator, but sex is never described explicitly.
- It never produces sexual content involving minors or content meant to harm real people.
- It is not a tool for copying or plagiarizing other people’s work. Pasting someone else’s manuscript to reword it can infringe their copyright.
- It never publishes or posts your work on your behalf. Whether to publish, and how to disclose AI use, is your call.
The free beta and what comes next
Everything is free right now. Logged-in users get a daily number of AI drafting requests that refills the next day. Running costs are meant to be partly covered by ads on the informational pages; there are never ads on the writing screens. A Pro plan for heavier use will be prepared once we see how the beta is used. Details are on the Pricing page.
How we test
New features are tried end to end the way a serial is actually written: setup, episode 1, several episodes in a row, then the final act. We check above all whether the AI contradicts earlier episodes and whether it paces itself to the target episode count. If something breaks or feels clumsy, use “Send feedback” in the corner or the Contact page.
